sarah's rave reviews!

With The Dark Knight opening this weekend...which you all are going to LUV...I've got superheroes on the brain. So, I checked out some superhuman entertainment that you might want to check out too!

Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog

During the writers strike, Joss Whedon was very vocal about his frustrations. But, instead of just complaining he did something about it, something very creative and awesomesauce. He got some of his talented and well-known friends like Neil Patrick Harris, Nathon Fillion & Felicia Day to make Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, a mini-series exclusively for the interwebs.

What I really like about this series, besides the fact that it's well-done and entertaining, is Whedon's clearly experimenting with this medium. In my opinion, that is exactly what internet entertainment should be all about. The three acts are available for free on the home site until midnight, Sunday, July 20th. Each episode is available for $1.99 on iTunes or the entire series for $3.99. Then, hopefully sooner rather than later, the series will be available on DVD with what Whedon says are the "finest and bravest extras in all the land."

Bigger, Stronger, Faster

bigger doc

Bigger, Stronger, Faster is a documentary by weightlifter Christopher Bell who dives into our obsession with being superhuman. He is the only one of three brothers who doesn't do steroids, he gives some interesting personal insight on the struggle to be bigger, stronger and faster. Then, the movie takes an interesting turn by debunking the myth that steroids are dangerous with medical experts ultimately saying there isn't enough research because of the ban. And that the majority of the fear of steroids is from the media. What? Media planting fear in society? Never! This movie is packed with fascinating data and intriguing hypocrisies but lacks a bit with entertainment value.

And because I love you so much, I'm throwing in a bonus review!

Bonus Review: Heroes Soundtrack

heroes

The Heroes soundtrack has hits from some well known artists like Death Cab for Cutie and Wilco but what I love are the tracks from Wendy & Lisa. Wendy & Lisa is the musical duo of Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman. These ladies worked with Prince in the 80's but now make awesome tunes for the TV show Heroes. Their music makes me feel like maybe even I could travel trough time and space and yet also I feel very grounded and one with my surroundings. In other words, their music is an experience.

When I first saw this I was like "Ok, quick segment by some chick = FastForward" until I started to think wow they must have gotten a lot of friends to create the club atmosphere until I kept watching and noticed that it was ANNIE and STEVE dancing with the wall. WTF! From that point on I was laughing at the top of my lungs until it was over. I just came back and figured out what it was actually about. Since there are only so many places to go on the interweb.

Nice having Sarah to join the EPIC FU team! I'm really curious to seeing the Dark Knight myself. I have a ticket for the 3am show and I'd probably give you my review on it when I come back. As for the SING ALONG BLOG, I really don't think they should be charging it on iTunes. Sure, make some advertisement revenue profit but don't put a price on something as great as this. It's also nice knowing that the Heroes soundtrack is coming out!

Thanks, Sarah!
