epic spotlight: bat for lashes

This past week on the show we spotlighted Bat for Lashes, the UK band headed by Natasha Khan, a Brighton based singer/songwriter. The group (whose female counterparts have included Ginger Lee, Abi Fry, Caroline Weeks and Lizzy Carey) mixes the sound of drums, guitar, piano, harpsichord, and occasional hand claps to create a sound that is dark, haunting and consistently intriguing.

The band is vaguely reminiscent of a Bjork and Tori Amos hybrid, but not enough that they aren't completely distinct and original. Natasha creates a sound that I can only describe as neo-ancient - the song Prescilla from their last album Fur and Gold is a perfect example.

I'm pretty excited to hear their next album, which is slated to come out some time this year. Check out the three videos below to get your Bat for Lashes fix in the meantime:
