This week we're really digging Munk One's work. If you haven't yet heard of Munk One, you may have seen his band artwork for artists like Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, My Chemical Romance and many others. He's a contemporary American illustrator and fine artist based out of California. Since 2003 he's been exhibiting his work in galleries and shows no sign of stopping any time soon.
He started his art career in high school as a QC in the art department of a screen printing company that was then part of Warner Bros. His goal though was to become part of that Art Department, and that's what he eventually did. From there he went on to work with other talented artists and began working on properties like Scooby Doo, Harley Davidson and others.
What's so great about Munk One is that from the very beginning he sought ways to reach his ultimate goal. Art is a very saturated field and thinking like a business person is the best thing one can do in order to climb that competitive ladder. It doesn't hurt that his style is pretty damn cool. It's feels like a mix of Mexican folk art and graffiti.
